Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
The FCRA governs consumer-reporting practices and provides rights related to access, accuracy, disputes, and certain uses of consumer reports.
Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)
The FDCPA restricts certain conduct by covered third-party debt collectors and gives consumers specific communication and validation rights.
Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA)
ECOA prohibits discrimination in credit transactions on protected bases.
Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA)
CROA regulates companies selling credit-repair services, including advertising, required disclosures, written contracts, advance-payment restrictions, and cancellation rights.
Important: Consumers can dispute possible inaccuracies themselves. Accurate negative information generally cannot be removed merely because it is unfavorable.
